There is nothing like an ice cold cup of orange juice when you wake up!
Normally, but not today. It is COLD outside! I woke up without the feeling in my toes, my herb garden is at death’s door and Santa is stalking me everywhere I go. On the upside…cuddle weather is in full swing!! Yes! Tis the season for love and copious amounts of hot chocolate (basically the same thing). Trade in the orange juice for a warmer, more indulgent orange white hot chocolate. YUM!
No oranges were harmed in the process of making this orange white hot chocolate. Excluding the one you see above…I needed a prop.
What gives this cup of joy its orange flavor is something called orange blossom water. It is a clear aromatic water that results when orange blossoms have their essential oils extracted. Think of it as the essence of an orange. Gives the flavor without the pulp, seeds and most importantly…the mess. I haven’t seen it in big super markets but I know health food markets usually carry them.
So why make this? Have you ever had an orange creamsicle?
Yes: OK! Imagine that it melted, got heated up and made more velvety.
No: I am sorry for your loss.
It tastes like what you would imagine an orange white hot chocolate to taste like. Sweet, orange-y, smooth, and soul warming. I would advise against using an actual orange though. The flavor is too inconsistent and will water down the hot chocolate. This tastes amazing but is simple. I like simple. Give it a try and let me know if you have a favorite hot chocolate recipe!
Here is a lavender flavored white hot chocolate recipe. No lavender? Well then…use a few drops of whatever flavor extract you have around.
