Happy holidays everyone!!!
It’s that time of the year again. Families are gathered together to share the joys of the holiday season. Black Friday ads are shoved in my face in every conceivable way. Turkey and stuffing recipes overflow my news feeds. Radio stations gearing up to blast a continuous concert of Christmas songs. What’s not to love?
Seriously, no sarcasm, I love it! My family means everything to me and we speak to each other every day. 365 days a year. Black Friday only comes once. So yes, I capitalize and buy all the useless stuff I can until this time rolls around again. When and where else can I find an inflatable hot tub for $299.99 after a mail in rebate? Or an Easy Bake Oven for $27.99? My point exactly! Useless but cheap! I’m a sucker for cheap…
Needless to say, my family doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving. We don’t need a specified day to be grateful and express our love to each other. Every day is to be cherished. Cliché but true. I feel the same about Valentine’s day…but that’s best left for another day.
I’m not going to leave you guys hanging though. In the “spirit” of Thanksgiving, I made you guys this!!! Thanksgiving Turkey “Wontons” is an Asian guy with a food blog celebrates the holidays. The flavors of a traditional thanksgiving dinner all wrapped into a bite. The recipe is very flexible; I have another variation for you guys in a few days. Until then, have fun with it and turn some heads with my take on a Thanksgiving dinner.
- 8 oz Deli Turkey The thinner, the better
- 5 oz Block of Cheese I used Havarti and Smoked Gouda
- 1 oz Cream Cheese
- 1 oz Unsalted Butter
- 4 oz Panko
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Celery Salt Or to taste
- Grounded Black Pepper To taste
- 1 14 oz Can Cranberry Sauce
- 2 Whole Bosc Pear
- 2 Whole Green Anjou Pear
- 2 oz Dried Cranberries
- Over medium heat, melt the butter. As soon as the butter has melted, throw in the panko crumbs, garlic powder and celery salt. Keep stirring until they are golden brown. Move off heat.
- Cut the cheese to 1 tsp sized bites.
- Pat the turkey slices dry and place a piece of cheese in the center.
- Fold in half and apply some cream cheese to a corner. This will hold them together. Then Fold the corners together.
- Slice the pears and throw them in a bowl of water. Squeeze the juice of a whole lemon in the bowl. This will keep the pears from browning.
- Melt the cranberry sauce in a pot over medium heat or in a microwave until it is liquid (20 second intervals).
- Done! Combine all the ingredients on a plate/platter. Plate this however you want.
Here is a much better tutorial and different ways to fold wontons.
Keep your turkey DRY. It will not stick if it is moist.
The thinner the slices, the easier it is to fold.
You can use turkey stuffing instead of cheese as the filling!
